Here are some guest testimonials from our walking and bike tours:
Wonderful cycling through villages, cork orchards, and olive trees. I enjoyed the varying landscapes, challenging riding and the delicious food and wine. Liz K. Seattle, Wa. June 2013, Andalusia bike tour, Spain.
The most wonderful bike tour – gorgeous scenery, vigorous exercise, fabulous fresh seafood, delicious wine – best of all, our guides /hosts, Pedro, Luis and Eva.
We learned so much and gained a love for the most welcoming country on earth. Each day brought special treasures: tours of a tile factory and a vineyard, exploration of ancient roman ruins, climbing atop castle walls – and cycling through fields of cows and sheep, past orange and lemon groves, up mountains, over hills, speeding though valleys, and down to the beautiful, clear blue sea. I can’t wait to return – hard to imagine a better place.
Thanks you so much for sharing your home with us – we would love to host you in Washington, DC. Dan & Dori – May 2013, Costa Azul bike tour.
Thank you for showing us your marvelous country. The time, work and effort you have devoted to finding the best rides, most hospitable lodging and most delectable food and wine have given us the BEST vacation of our lives. I feel as if you must have been tired of hearing me say how beautiful and perfect I thought everything was – but that’s how the land, sea, farms, castles, mountains, valleys and people are in Portugal. Your love of and pride in this country are contagious; we are so fortunate that you were our guides, teachers and hosts. You are THE BEST! Costa Azul bike tour – Nat. & Bern. May 2013.
“Our bicycle tour with Terracotta Journeys was the high point of our visit to Portugal. My wife and I had never done a bike tour before but Pedro and Eva and Luis treated us like family and attended to every detail to make this a great experience. They were very knowledgeable and gave us a unique perspective on Portugal and its people. The visits to the tile-making factory and to a monastery near Sintra were memorable. Traveling around the country, seeing a host of beautiful towns and the raging Atlantic coastline, all from the seat of your bicycle, was spectacular. Everything was first rate and we would heartily recommend this bike tour. Obrigado!” Bonnie and Bruce – Washington D.C. – Romantic Lisbon Mini-tour, March 2013.
“You have been our beloved teachers this week. Whatever we know about Andalucia, Spain, and about good spirit and generosity and the love of being alive and among good friends – we have learned from you. Hasta luego” Patricia & Steven S. – CA, USA – Andalucia bike tour Oct.2012.
“Dave and I wanted to thank you so much for putting on a wonderful bike tour for us. Your choices of the route, all accommodations, meals, etc. were superb and your company was delightful. You were so supportive of us and relayed so much good information, historical as well as teaching us about regional customs, cuisines and language. We really enjoyed the side trips that were added into the cycling, too. The equipment, van, snacks and picnics all were great and your attitudes as well. I hope we can cross paths with you again – either here or on the other side of the world at our home, you have our address and an open invitation to come for a visit!” Dave & Kate, USA – September 2012
I feel stronger and more confident after this week of riding and I thank you for that. Good luck with your business – you’re on the right track or rather wheels! Cheers to you. ” Berkeley S. – BC, Canada – The Costa Azul to the Algarve bike tour, May 2012.
Cycling, touring and sightseeing with Terracotta Journeys was exemplary in every manner possible. The expedition they organized for us in Andalucia, Southern Spain provided a gratifying riding opportunity for me as an experienced cyclist while their careful coordination made the less practiced riders feel equally well looked after. Pedro and Eva’s intimate knowledge of the areas we traveled through helped avail terrific lodging, dining and cultural highlights throughout the entire journey. They beautifully orchestrated a memorable adventure and I would highly recommend it for any one interested in seeing the pleasures of the Iberian peninsula from a moving two wheeled perch. Stephen S. – San Francisco, CA, U.S.A. – The Andalusia bike tour, May 2012.
Really wonderful tour and service! Loved the food variety, the bags in our room everyday and the choices for cycling. Thank you so much! Pat and Steve, CO, USA – The Andalusia bike tour, May 2012
“Best bike tour I have ever taken!! Eva and Pedro are wonderful hosts / guides and have set up a truly remarkable adventure. I am going to have to come back to the Andalusia trip in Spain. Thanks for a wonderful time and great hospitality! It was a great way to celebrate my upcoming 60th birthday with my daughter.”
David B.- Oconomowoc, WI – Mar.2012
“Thank you so much for your extremely hospitable and informative experience. We enjoyed the hikes and tour walks very much. And the food! And the wine, …! Many thanks, M. & S. Perera – Perth, Australia. Dec. 2011 Atlantic Coast to the Algarve Walking tour.
“Thanks for the great bike trip! We got to know another beautiful part of Portugal, full of history. Thank you for the great cycling, that was so well planned. We ate so well too: typical Portuguese food – it was perfect! We also enjoyed the entertaining conversation, especially about Portugal, Spain and the United States. Hopefully we meet again, perhaps with Eva – on another tour. Regards, Brian W. – WA, DC” – September 2011
“We can’t say enough about how wonderful you made our tour. We received much more than expected, had accommodations in locations that will never be forgotten, viewed places that we had not found in performing our research, (…), had an impressive tour. Thank you.”
Scott & Lynelle B. – NE, USA – June 2011
“This sounded like a wonderful cycling trip when we carefully researched the sites being visited before we made our reservation, but it surpassed all our expectations. (…) We loved the towns being visited (especially Obidos & Sintra) and every hotel was superb. Thank you for introducing us to the cuisine of Portugal – wonderful restaurants with everything fresh. Eva and Pedro, you are such welcoming and gracious hosts, we feel we now have friends in Portugal. We hope we can join you again for another tour. Many many thanks for making us falling in love with Portugal.”
J. & R. H. – Memphis, TN – March 2011
“Great bike trip and can’t thank you enough Pedro! We were shooting for a quality over quantity trip and you hit the mark. Meals, accomodations and details were all top of the line. With your help, we were able to not only see Portugal but to “feel” Portugal. You have a gift to share with people and we were the benefactors. Lots of good humor, good wine, and good biking. We couldn’t ask for more. Please come to Iowa and we will host you for RAGBRAI. Your new friends,”
Mike and Lisa H. Iowa, USA – Set. 2010
“Cycling with Pedro, Eva and Jorge is like having family showing you the sights. The selection of routes, sights, hotels and restaurants is very well thought out and Eva’s picnics are the highlights of the rides. And if you are even just a little lucky, you may get a surfing lesson from Pedro. We are hoping that we will have the opportunity to visit Portugal for another bike trip with them in the future.”
Vivian and Tony, San Francisco, CA, USA – May 2010 Portugal Costa Azul bike tour
“We have just enjoyed wonderful things in Spain and Portugal (cycling in the Extremadura and Alentejo). Stopping on a quiet country road to listen to the birds singing and seeing the multi-colored carpet of wildflowers was truly magical. And exploring the various old castle towns and the regional cuisines was also very special. It was a perfect spring vacation for us. Obrigada for a wonderful week!“
Mary and John E., Tucson, AZ, USA – March 2010 Spain and Portugal WH bike tour
“It was the perfect holiday. With every detail taken care of by Pedro (aided and abetted by Eva) our only task was to “follow the blue (GPS) line” and enjoy the day as it unfolded, each completely different from that which preceded it.
We will long remember: spectacular scenery, waking up in convents, castles (…), the fruit platters and the fish, wild figs and cumquats by the roadside, roasters crowing and goat bells tinkling, the triumph of completing a challenging day’s cycling, ancient monastery, sumptuous palaces, numbered cork trees, stork nests, blue and white houses, …
We have thoroughly enjoyed the whole Terracotta Journeys experience, from the first point of contact to what, hopefully, will not be the last. Até logo. Obrigado/a.”
Sue and Will H., Melbourne, Australia – Portugal Costa Azul bike tour, September 2009
Greatest, most fun, best planned and organized adventure I have ever had. Every minute was rich with cultural mind openers, and pleasures of all sorts. I could not ask for more from Terracotta Journeys; I wouldn’t have any idea how to improve on such a wonderful experience. Perfection in all aspects of the tour.
Tim S. CA, USA – Spain and Portugal World Heritage bike tour
“This trip was one of the most fun athletic vacations that Barbara and I have had for many years. The ability to have different length rides took a lot of stress off both of us.”
Richard & Barbara M. – CA, USA – Spain and Portugal World Heritage Culinary bike tour
“We simply cannot thank you (Eva, Pedro and Jorge) for the gift of an unforgettable week. Every aspect of the tour, from the routes, to the equipment, from the accommodations to the meals was outstanding. Most importantly, you made us feel part of the Terracotta Journeys extended family. “The sea cliffs were a highlight along with the farm land in the countryside . I enjoyed the side trips to the tile factory, the vineyard and windmill. (…) A very nice treat was the quality of the hotels and all the eating establishments. The equipment is [of] superior [quality] and BEST of all was the knowledge, safety and kindness of our guide Pedro. I will highly recommend this bike tour (Costa Azul).”
Aleja, Colorado, USA – March 2009 Portugal Greater Lisbon bike tour
“This bike tour took us through some beautiful places and back roads, and gently rolling Portuguese «flats»! We will never forget the wonderful cork trees, olive groves, grape vines, wonderful people and of course our afternoon cerveja breaks.”
Gabriella and Frank, Toronto, Canada – Spain and Portugal Costa Azul and World Heritage bike tour
“What a fabulous trip! Pedro did a fantastic job of showing us his beautiful country. The biking was great (lovely vistas, wild flowers and charming farms). We enjoyed learning about local foods and the wine was wonderful. I hope there is another Terracotta Journeys in my future.”
Marci B., Kansas City, MO, USA – May 2008 – Portugal Costa Azul bike tour
“As a non cyclist, I had reservations about riding 40+ Km per day. However, the biking schedule was set up perfectly to allow me to get stronger every day. I have travelled many places, but this cycling trip along the Costa Azul ranks among the best of my experiences. Terracotta Journeys set up a perfect travel itinerary – I can say without reservation that I got to experience Portugal in a way that I never would have been able to if I tried to set up the vacation myself. Pedro is a host / guide without peer. I found myself saying frequently throughout the week “This (experience) is so cool, it can’t be any better than this” and then repeating the sentiment with each new experience. The accommodations were excellent, food delicious, and company entertaining. This was my first bike tour, but it will definitely not be my last. I hope to experience Terracotta Journeys’ World Heritage bike tour in the near future.”
Peter B., Kansas City, MO, USA – Portugal Costa Azul bike tour
“What a wonderful experience this was! The cycling was top notch, taking on some of the most beautiful roads I have cycled. However, just as enjoyable were the hospitality by Pedro, the food and wine, the hotels … the total experience. Even a surfing lesson! (…) Thank you so much for our wonderful Terracotta Journeys, I know there will be more in my future and would recommend this trip to anyone!”
Jason F., Kansas City, MO, USA – Portugal Costa Azul bike tour
“Thank you for a fantastic bike tour. We will remember the routes that you chose as included great scenery – especially enjoyed the small villages with quaint churches and all the tile houses. We will remember the wild flowers, the storks, sheep with bells, castles and the Spanish-Portuguese border. The paradores and pousadas were unbelievable. Each had its own charms and experiences. Also trying the local food and wine was always a highlight …”
Deb & Jake G., Plymouth, MN, USA – May 2008 – Spain and Portugal World Heritage bike tour
“It has been my dream to do a cycling tour in Europe and this met all my expectations and more! A perfect experience for our family, well chosen routes with excellent scenery, a variety of terrain and hotels with charm and history. We saw parts of Portugal we never would have seen on our own and Pedro and Eva saw to all our needs, including helping us to adjust to the language and the culture. We would definitely recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys combining exercise with great food, new experiences and time well spent with friends and family. We’re glad we found Terracotta Journeys and booked this trip with them! ”
Pat H. and family, Alberta, Canada – May 2008 – Portugal Costa Azul bicycle tour
“We chose Terracotta Journeys for our custom tour in honor of my “big” birthday because of their responsiveness to our special requests, excellent hotel choices and passion for cycling and the region. We had a magical trip, experiencing challenging rides on well chosen routes through beautiful country that gave us a sense of enormous accomplishment and a breath-taking hike along the coast to the most western point of Europe. We visited beautiful monasteries, palaces and castles and learned some of Portugal’s fascinating history along the way. Highlights included a delicious picnic in a cork grove, terrific seafood and great wine. Jorge, our guide, was not only knowledgeable, but also warm, affable, flexible and delightful company. We laughed more than we had in years. I highly recommend Terracotta Journeys.”
Marsha W., Hartford, CT, USA – April 2008 – Portugal Costa Azul bike tour
“I have taken biking or hiking trips with more than ten different companies, and Terracotta Journeys is topnotch. The routes offered great scenery with minimal traffic; the hotels were distinctive and charming; and the food was marvelous. Terracotta Journeys confirms the wisdom of selecting a company that specializes in a region.”
